Jam-packed in this award-winning website you can find an answer to all your questions - or a person/organization who can find the answer. This year is a pivotal one for our post. In the past 18 months, we have sold our old post home, moved into temporary administrative housing and purchased land to build an extraordinary post home in the heart of Springfield, Virginia and the Ft. Belvoir community. As of 22 April 2008, we have received the special exception permit to begin our construction. We hope to break ground this summer and christen the new post home on the most fitting day - the 4th of July, 2009 - 63 years after our charter in 1946. Over the weekend of May 17-18, judges from around Virginia gathered at the Department Headquarters for the annual judging of posts, districts, and individual categories. We are proud to announce that Springfield Post 7327 was selected for the All-State Team and awarded “All-State Post” status. This means that out of the 175 plus VFW posts in Virginia, Springfield Post 7327 is one of the top 20 posts in Virginia. We were also named the “All-State Team Captains” which is awarded to the best post in Virginia. Congratulations to all of the members of Post 7327 and the ladies of the Auxiliary. Together, we met all of the requirements and were deemed the best! Along with the state honors, we are also poised to become an “All-American” Post, awarded by the National VFW Commander. Judging for this honor begins after 30 June 2008—so stay tuned! To earn these honors, the post my exceed their membership from last year (105 and 110% respectively), participate in all of the VFW core programs, complete all reporting and inspection requirements and submit an activity book highlighting the previous year’s community activities. This year alone, our post has completed over one hundred projects, logged over 3500 hours of volunteerism (that was reported) and driven thousands of miles in support of veterans, service members and the community. Here is a synopsis of some of our programs: Springfield VFW Post 7327 has one of the most aggressive ADOPT-A-UNIT programs in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This past year alone, we’ve spent over $1500 to ship packages to Afghanistan and Iraq. We plan to adopt more units and will continue to support our service members overseas.
Advertising and communication are important for our post. We stay connected to 700 members through the website, newsletter and newly-formed Blog site. The post has been very successful in all endeavors. Please take a look at our award-winning website! In August 2006 and August 2007, Post 7327 won 1st place in the VFW competition for best VFW post/district web site worldwide. It was announced in September 2008 that we had tied for first place in the 2008 conteset. There are approximately 9,000 posts in the nation and our post was judged as having the best web site. Three years entered, three first place wins! Our newsletter and website are indicative of the thousands of hours of tireless work by our dedicated members. But our accomplishments don’t stop there. Congratulations to Post 1146 of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, who shared the first place win!
